About

Karen M. HillmanI graduated from University of California, Berkeley with my Masters in Social Welfare (MSW) and received my clinical licenses in California (LCSW) in 2005, and in Maryland (LCSW-C) in 2010.

I treat depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship and social/interpersonal challenges, self-esteem issues, and adjustment to chronic medical conditions, including HIV. My work experience includes outpatient community mental health and medical clinics, where I have provided specialized care to LGBTQIA+ and HIV-positive individuals. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a passion for providing affirming support to this population.

I have a particular interest in working with Autistic adults, and with partners and family members of Autistic adults. Autistic individuals across the spectrum have the right to self-determination and access to supportive tools and services. I align myself with the Autistic self-advocacy and acceptance movements.

As a white, cisgender therapist, I believe that cultural humility and attention to unique, individual identities is essential to my practice. My approach to therapy is informed by awareness of systemic oppression of marginalized communities  Our work together will be guided by your preferences and world view.

My pronouns are she/her/hers.

Sessions are via telehealth only.
